Clematis Jackmanii Superba, Clematis 'Jackmanii Superba', is known to be an improved Clematis 'Jackmanii' with its broader petals and deeper rich purple color when flowers first open. The 5 flowers transition from deep purple to a lighter violet with age. 'Jackmanii Superba' is an excellent cultivar for later season color blooming from midsummer to early fall. Can also be used as a ground cover! Clematis 'Jackmanii Superba' is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch or a shallow rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established they take a season or two.
