The Chicago Fire Burning Bush Euonymus, Euonymus alatus 'Timber Creek', is an excellent large shrub for landscape use and is hardier than the species. Similar to 'Compactus', but somewhat hardier, with mahogany red tones in the summer foliage and brilliant fire red fall color. Chicago Fire Burning Bush Euonymus appears earlier than other cultivars with abundant, long lasting red fruits that open to show small orange seeds. Its corky wings on stems add winter interest. Useful as a screen, specimen, accent, or hedge. It is an adaptable shrub which tolerates a wide range of soils and full shade, but will not tolerate wet, poorly drained soil. Since it has a strong, branching growth habit it can withstand heavy pruning.
