Loose heads grow beautiful enough to use as an ornamental plant. The large round wavy leaves have toothed edges with sweet, mild flavor. This purple crisp heading lettuce stands well without bolting or becoming bitter. French Crisp has upright rosettes of crunchy green leaves overlaid with dark purple, and it can be picked a few leaves at a time or left to make a firm head.
