Mountain sandwort, Arenaria Montana, is a very classy little alpine or rock garden plant. It forms a low evergreen cushion of dark green leaves, bearing loads of rather large, cup shaped, white flowers during the spring months. The leaves are lance shaped, grayish green. Mountain Sandwort is a hardy, little ground cover that may be so happy in moist gardens that it seems impossible to get rid of! It is sometimes used as a lawn substitute. Mountain Sandwort is great for edging paths, between flagstones, in walls, or trough gardens. It requires a well drained site, and it is drought tolerant, once established. Easily divided in spring or early fall.
