The Waneta Plum, Prunus 'Waneta', produces well the first season after planting, and is one of the best market plums. Its fruit is large, red, sweet, juicy and of good quality. Now you can enjoy large, red skinned, yellow fleshed plums earlier in summer than ever before. Waneta gives you lots and lots of sweet, juicy plums from late August to early September in Zone 5. This Waneta plum tree is a big producer, too. Waneta plums are great for eating fresh and for canning. South Dakota Experiment Station introduction, 1913. Plant about a month after the first killing frost in the fall or about a month before the last killing frost in the spring. Select a planting site that has good air, drainage, full sunlight and deep, well drained soil.
