Clematis Beauty of Worcester, Clematis 'Beauty of Worcester', is an exquisitely blooming clematis that displays large double flowers of violet purple. The finely detailed flowers have 6 7 concentric tepal layers, each getting a bit smaller. The bottom layers are accented with striking reddish central bars. Reblooms as single flowers in late summer. Thrives in full sun. Also a great choice for containers. 'Beauty of Worcester' needs a supporting structure to grow properly but will also grow over large shrubs, over walls, cover stumps, and make perfect cover ups for unsightly service areas. Clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch or a shallow rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established they take a season or two to get going. Groom this plant after first flowering by cutting back the top one third to one half of some stems.
