The Autumn Sun Coneflower, Rudbeckia nitida 'Herbstsonne', has tall, upright, branching stems that are topped with bright yellow daisy like flowers. The petals droop from a large green cone. Showcase this beauty at the back of the perennial border since it gets 6 8’ tall. Its blooms start in July and continue into fall. Autumn Sun has a great winter interest, so leave plants in fall. It also provides a natural bird feeder! Water plants during the summer if rainfall is less than 1 inch per week. Cut stems back to an inch or two above soil line and clean up vegetation in early spring. Divide plants every 3 to 4 years as new growth begins in the spring, lifting plants and dividing them into clumps.
