Dianthus Shooting Star, Dianthus 'Shooting Star' PP14,549, is another wonderful addition to the Star series of Dianthus! Could this be the best one yet We think so! 'Shooting Star' forms neat and compact evergreen mounds that remain attractive all season long. The blue green foliage is covered with hundreds of magenta purple flowers in early spring, and again in early fall after dead heading. The delightful spicy clove fragrance is an added bonus! Dianthus 'Shooting Star' needs a sunny site with well drained soil, but will tolerate some shade in the afternoon along with humidity. Regular watering during prolonged dry spells will be necessary. However, they are tolerant of short periods of dryness. These fragrant, spicy dove like flowers look wonderful as a border plant, rock gardens, along walks or paths, for edging and a definite in cottage gardens.
