Hosta Christmas Candy, Hosta 'Christmas Candy' PPAF, is a sweet treat for the shade garden. This vigorous sport of Hosta 'Night Before Christmas' has narrower green margins and a creamy white center yellow in spring. The most important difference, however, is that the solid white center does not fade all growing season. 'Christmas Candy' is amazingly sun tolerant as long as the soil is moist. The long, arching leaves make a beautiful cascading look that is very striking! Lavender flowers in mid summer add a lovely color to your flower bed. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions. Hostas grow best in moist, well drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. High filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for clean, healthy growth. Morning sun is tolerable and will help to intensify the leaf colors, but hot afternoon sun is usually deadly to hostas. They are most at home in shady, woodland settings and often work well as specimen or edging plants.
