Tomato Cherokee Purple Organic

Solanum Cherokee Purple USDA Organic Tomato, Solanum lycopersicum 'Cherokee Purple Tomato', was originally passed down from the Cherokee tribe of Native Americans and is a Tennessee Heirloom. 'Cherokee Purple' is a reliable producer of medium purple brown fruits with darker shoulders. Fruits are round to oblong with no cracking and average 8 to 12 oz. This heirloom exhibits tolerance to mild drought as well as to common diseases. The Cherokee Purple tomatoes are absolutely delicious with a pleasantly sweet and rich flavor. Grows well in the South. Tomatoes should be planted outside after the last average frost date. In warm winterhot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. If you are growing tomatoes in a pot, use plastic because it prevents evaporation and afternoon wilts.
