Solanum Striped German USDA Organic Tomato, Solanum lycopersicum 'Striped German Tomato', is a flat, medium to large, variably ribbed shoulder tomato that is shaded yellow and red. The marbled interior looks beautiful sliced. The flavor is considered complex and fruity with a smooth texture. Striped German tomatoes grow on medium tall vines. Tomatoes should be planted outside after the last average frost date. In warm winterhot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. If you are growing tomatoes in a pot, use plastic because it prevents evaporation and afternoon wilts.
